In 2009, Google Chief Economist Hal Varian said “the sexy job in the next ten years will be statisticians…”. During the consultative workshop on the Philippine Statistical Development Program 2011-2017, former Tourism Secretary Dr. Mina Gabor highlighted the need for us "to make statistics sexier and more exciting for laymen". Dr. Roberto De Vera of the University of Asia and the Pacific added that when statistics are presented in easy-to-understand terms, they could also be "cool" and "awesome."
In accordance with our corporate core value to be ever relevant to our stakeholders, we, the NSCB Technical Staff are more than challenged not only to look and feel sexier but also how to make our statistics sexy.
As more and more users are requesting statistics from us, we find it important to share information with other users. In this way, we can optimize the use of statistics that we compile, widen access to statistics produced by the Philippine Statistical System, and enhance public appreciation for statistics towards good governance, towards informed decision making, towards better development outcomes.
This section thus presents the special tabulations and computations done by the NSCB Technical Staff not only in response to various data requests of our stakeholders but also to present statistics on current issues.
