Number of Barangays as of the First Quarter of 2012 Totals 42,027

In the first quarter of 2012, one barangay was added with the division of Barangay Canumay, Valenzuela City into: Barangay Canumay West and Barangay Canumay East bringing the total number of barangays to 42,027. The division of the said barangay was pursuant to Ordinance No. 37, Series of 2011, approved on November 21, 2011 by the Sangguniang Panglungsod of Valenzuela City and ratified through a plebiscite conducted by the COMELEC on March 3, 2012. Per Philippine Standard Geographic Code (PSGC), compiled by the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB), Barangay Canumay West retains the code 137504007 while Barangay Canumay East gets a new code, 137504033.
Other updates include the: a) renaming of Barangay Tulo to Barangay Milagrosa, pursuant to Provincial Resolution No. 030 Series of 2010, dated February 1, 2010 and Kapasiyahan Bilang 10-001 Taon 2010, dated December 20, 2009, and ratified through a plebiscite conducted by the COMELEC on December 3, 2011; and b) correction in the name of the Municipality of Jetafe to Getafe in the province of Bohol based on Republic Act No. 9777, dated November 17, 2009, An Act Declaring October 12th of every year x x x to be known as “Getafe Foundation Day”.
With these updates, the latest number of regions, provinces, cities, municipalities, and barangays in the country as of March 31, 2012 is as follows:
