NSCB Congratulates Dr. Margarita F. Guerrero as the New Director
of the Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific ![]()

The National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) joins the entire Philippine Statistical System (PSS) in congratulating Dr. Margarita F. Guerrero as the new Director of the United Nations Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (UN-SIAP).
Dr. Guerrero is the third Filipino and the second woman to hold the position of Director of UN-SIAP. She previously served as Lecturer/Statistician of the UN-SIAP and was the Regional Adviser on Statistics at the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific before rejoining SIAP. Prior to her stint with the United Nations, Dr. Guerrero served as Director of the Industry and Trade Statistics Department of the National Statistics Office, Philippines.
A graduate of Statistics from the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), she joined the UPLB faculty and served as Director of the Institute of Mathematical Sciences & Physics, UPLB. Dr. Guerrero earned her Ph. D. in Statistics in 1984 from the Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, USA.
The NSCB and the PSS benefitted from the valuable contribution of Dr. Guerrero in the development of statistics in the Philippines through her membership and sharing of expertise in the various NSCB-created committees such as the Technical Committee on Survey Design, Technical Committee on Seasonal Adjustment of Philippine Time Series, and Interagency Committee on Trade Statistics, among others.
