Philippine Standard Geographic Code (PSGC)

TECHNICAL NOTES

Uses of the Philippine Standard Geographic Code (PSGC)

Aside from its main use as instrument to bring about uniformity and comparability area statistics, PSGC serves a number of other uses. As a comprehensive geographical classification, PSGC serves as area sampling frame in the conduct of censuses and sample surveys; as a basis in the internal revenue allotment (IRA) to local government units; and as a guide in local/subregional development planning. Likewise, PSGC is used in the registration forms administered by the Civil Registry Office. The NAMRIA, on the other hand, uses the PSGC in updating their maps.

In the last registration of voters, the COMELEC used the PSGC as basis in the assignment of geographic code (province, municipality and barangay codes) on Voters Registration Record (VRR) and Voters ID. The PSGC is useful in the establishment of databases and in the development of geographic information systems (GIS).
